An NGO from Tezpur ‘Sikun Relief Foundation’ work on Menstrual Hygiene:

Through this estimate daily, we want to talk about an NGO ‘Sikun Relief Foundation‘ in Tezpur Sikun Relief Foundation promoting Menstrual Health and Hygiene. There are two strong voice from Tezpur, Assam Mayuri Bhatacharjee (Founder of Sikun Relief Foundation) and Puja Sarkar (The Project Coordinator). Sikun’s field of vision is to Educate, Equip and Empower the community about the period. Sikun Relief foundation started their journey since 2016 to till date. Sikun Relief foundation intends to break all such taboos. In every session they encourage girls to wish ‘Happy Periods‘ to every women when they are on their periods. In their session Sikun Relief Foundation talk about periods problem and taboos. More then 6,000 adolescence girl and women in four district had been covered by Sikun Relief Foundation.

 

 

 Mayuri Bhatacharjee said (Founder): In some areas girls and women can not afford sanitary pads. Mostly they use cloths repeatedly. So we thought of giving them a DIY cloth pad making workshop. And we successfully conducted two DIY pad making workshop with Eight Gram panchayat of Tezpur.

 

 

Puja Sarkar said (The Project coordinator of Sikun): Earlier, people didn’t discuss their periods related problems and they blindly believed all the rituals and norms. After the followup session we got to know that girls and women they become more comfortable to discuss about periods.
