The Kartik Hazarika National Theatre Festival started with Seven Days event
The Kartik Hazarika National theatre Festival, A Seven day theatre extravaganza got under way at the Tezpur – The Cultural Capital of Assam, Neheru Maidan and District Library in Sonitpur District today. The Festival is being organized by prominent socio-cultural organisation Jangam in Collaboration with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Assam. The Theatre Festival was inaugurated by Hrishekesh Goswami, Media Adviser to Chief Minister of Assam in the presence of Pallab Lochan Das, Labour Minister, Pritam Saikia, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, Manjoj Kr Deka, DC, Sonitpur, Pranjal Saikia, Veteran Actor, Rajen Barthakur, Ritu Baran Sarma, Padmashree Rantan Thiyam, Director, Alok Nath, President of Jangam and others. Macbeth, a Manipuri play was enacted on the inaugural night of the festival directed by Ratan Thiyam. Daily two plays are performed during the festival till Jan 9.
During the inauguration, Hrishekesh Goswami said theatre is a reflection of life on stage and there can be no compromise on the quality front. He further added that Jangam has taken a good initiative to promote quality theatre around the world and through this initiative people may know the culture of Assam in depth.
