A Village Woman with a Vision Manmoyuri Devi, a woman entrepreneur from Hugrajuli village in Dhekiajuli, Assam, is not a typical entrepreneur. She didn’t come from a business background, nor did she have any investor support. But what she had was a strong belief in her land, her culture, and the people around her. Together with her husband Pranab and Brother-in-Law Pallab, Manmoyuri Devi started a tea venture on their owned land. That small step later grew into two well-known initiatives — Assamica Agro Pvt. Ltd. and Kanoka Village Resort.
The Assamica Agro journey
In 2010, they began Assamica Agro with a focus on organic tea. At first, things were not easy. There were issues with getting certifications, very limited online reach, and no major connections. But Manmoyuri Devi believed in doing things the honest way. She involved local farmers, trained them in organic methods, and made sure fair wages were paid. Slowly, people outside Assam started noticing. Their teas packed with natural taste and Assamese culture started reaching international markets.
How Assamica Agro Reached Global Customers
Keeping Marketing Simple and Real Instead of flashy ads, the team focused on showing real stories of workers, of tea gardens, of village life. On their website and social media, you’ll find pictures of local women picking tea leaves or children playing in the background. This real, grounded approach built trust with customers.
The official website of- Assamica Agro doesn’t just list products it shares the journey behind each packet, from the tea gardens to the skilled hands that prepare it.
On platforms like Instagram, the brand shares real moments from village life, tea-plucking, and behind-the-scenes stories helping people connect with the culture behind every cup.
Exapnding into Tourism: Kanoka Village Resort
In 2018, Manmoyuri Devi along with her team took another step. This time, it was in eco-tourism. She helped set up Kanoka Village Resort on the same land where they grew tea. Guests from cities now come to live like villagers – stay in traditional homes, eat local food, and even try tea leaf plucking. This also created jobs for many local youth and women. Today, over 80 people are working directly or indirectly with the resort.
Managing with experience and care
As a co-founder and Director of both the companies Manmoyuri Devi manages most of the work from accounts to team coordination. She may not have formal business training, but her practical experience and dedication speak volumes. Known for her grounded leadership style, she also mentors village women to become more self-reliant and confident in their work.
Final Thoughts
Manmoyuri Devi’s story is proof that big success can come from small villages. With honesty, patience, and local knowledge, she has built something meaningful. Her journey is not just about business – it’s about changing lives.
