Olympic Day Celebrated in Tezpur

Tezpur, Assam | June 23, 2025 — Tezpur marked Olympic Day with an energetic run at Polofield, led by Union Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, President of the Assam Olympic Association. The event gained special significance with the presence of India’s celebrated sprinter Hima Das, who added inspiration and pride to the celebration.

Hima Das Inspires the Crowd

Hima Das, who won a gold medal in the 400m at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships, joined the event as a special guest. She motivated young participants by sharing her journey from Assam’s tracks to the international stage.

The Assam Olympic Association and Tezpur District Sports Association jointly hosted the event. It aimed to promote fitness, teamwork, and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

Over 2,500 people joined the run, including players, students, and local residents. The crowd showed strong enthusiasm as they ran together, waving flags and chanting slogans. The atmosphere reflected unity and the growing interest in health and sports.

The Assam Chambers of Commerce set up a refreshment camp at the venue. Volunteers served water and juice, helping runners stay hydrated in the hot weather. Their contribution ensured the comfort and safety of participants throughout the event.

Many schools, colleges, and local clubs also joined. Teachers and community leaders encouraged the youth to participate, turning the event into a larger movement for active living. Students from various institutions came in groups, representing their teams with pride.

Organizers thanked all volunteers, security personnel, and sponsors who supported the event. They praised the public for turning out in large numbers and making the celebration successful.

The event ended on a high note with smiles, cheers, and group photos. Tezpur’s Olympic Day Run showed how sports can unite communities and promote a healthier, more active lifestyle. It also strengthened the city’s role in promoting youth involvement in sports and public wellness.
