Sonitpur District Partners with TERI for Sustainable Development & Biodiversity Action

The District Commissioner of Sonitpur, Shri Ananda Kumar Das, chaired a high-level meeting today with representatives from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The discussion focused on building long-term strategies for environmental conservation and community well-being across the district.

The primary objective of the meeting was to establish a participatory, integrated approach to managing local land and natural resources.

The collaboration aims to promote the holistic development of Sonitpur by aligning local action with India’s national priorities and global environmental commitments. The discussion centered on four main pillars:

  • Biodiversity Conservation: Protecting the district’s rich, diverse ecosystem and native species.
  • Climate Change Adaptation: Developing resilient strategies to help local communities adapt to shifting climate patterns.
  • Sustainable Land Management: Balancing agricultural and developmental needs with soil and land preservation.
  • Community Well-Being: Ensuring that environmental strategies directly support and elevate the livelihoods of local residents.
