The Tezpur Municipal Board has issued a new order to regulate the movement and operation of e-rickshaws within the Tezpur Municipal Area in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smoother vehicular movement. The order, issued following a discussion held at the Office of the District Commissioner, Sonitpur, outlines several important measures for immediate implementation. As per the notification, all e-rickshaws operating within the municipal area must register with the Tezpur Municipal Board within one month. During the first phase, around 500–1000 e-rickshaws will be allowed to operate, subject to approval by the competent authority. The town has also been divided into three operational zones — West Tezpur, Middle Tezpur, and East Tezpur — each identified by separate colour codes and designated routes. Registered e-rickshaws must display the prescribed colour code and identification marks allotted by the Municipal Board. Specific parking areas have also been notified for e-rickshaws entering from Panchayat areas, while entry into the municipal area will be restricted except in emergency situations. The order further states that no e-rickshaw will be allowed to operate without valid registration and a driving licence issued by the District Transport Office. The Tezpur Municipal Board, Traffic Police, and District Transport Office have been directed to strictly enforce the order, which has come into effect immediately.
