Historic Play ‘Tetun Tamuli’ Staged in Tezpur under District Commissioner’s Initiative

The newly renovated auditorium of the District Library, Tezpur, played host to a magnificent cultural evening on May 23, 2026, celebrating the enduring legacy of Assamese literature. Under the visionary initiative of Sonitpur District Commissioner Shri Ananda Kumar Das, the Sonitpur District Administration, in close collaboration with the historic Baan Theatre, successfully staged the iconic Assamese comedy “Tetun Tamuli”, penned by the legendary Sahitya Kandari Padmanath Gohain Baruah.

The evening began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by District Commissioner Shri Ananda Kumar Das. Following this auspicious start, the play was formally inaugurated by Professor Amarendu Kumar Das, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University.

The event turned out to be a vibrant gathering of the district’s intellectual and cultural community. The auditorium was packed with invited dignitaries, prominent citizens, veteran theatre personalities, local artistes, and cultural connoisseurs, all coming together to witness a memorable night of classic Assamese theatre.
