Na-duar, January 10, 2025 – The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur, in collaboration with Edupur Society, Tezpur, has initiated a series of 50 street plays starting from January 4. This initiative aims to raise awareness and enhance preparedness for natural disasters such as floods and lightning.
The inaugural performance took place at Sootea Market, graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Raj Baruah, Co-District Commissioner of Na-Duar, Dr. Akashdeep Kakati, Circle Officer of Na-Duar Revenue Circle, Deepsikha Handique, Chairperson of the Sootea Municipal Board, Uday Shankar Saikia, President of Sootea No. 3 Gaon Panchayat, Dinesh Mahanta, President of the All Assam Federation of Veteran Associations, and Amit Raj Konwar, Director of Edupur Group.
The primary objective of the initiative is to foster community awareness about disaster preparedness. The series will feature 9 performances across various locations in the Na-Duar Revenue Circle, including Koroiyani Centre, Nagsankar Centre, Kusumtola Centre, Tupia Centre, Rangachakua Market area, Choibari Centre, Jamuguri Market area, and Sengelimora Market area. A mobile van equipped with loudspeakers will accompany the street plays, and safety leaflets will be distributed to maximize the reach and impact of the campaign.
The performances are brought to life by talented artists from Tezpur, including Pahi Dutta, Upashana Kalita, Vicky Ahmed, Rubu Moni Kalita, and Kabya Ranjan Bordoloi.
