The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony and Laying of the foundation stone of the proposed Cancer Care Hospital were held today at Gerua Pathar near Tezpur Medical College & Hospital, Bihaguri around 15 km away from Tezpur town. While addressing the gathering, DC Sonitpur, Monoj Kumar Deka said that “The Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) has been formed as a joint partnership with the Government of India to create a unique, first of its kind, three-level cancer grid in the State with the objective of creating patient-centric cancer institutions which will bring affordable and standardized care near to the patient’s home. He also said that overall 19 cancer care hospitals will be set up across the State in collaboration with the Tata Trust with the objective to provide modern treatment to the patients of the State and also of the North-east. The hospital at Tezpur will be constructed at Level 2 which will maintain daycare diagnostics facilities.” He further added, this project will ensure that no patient will have to travel more than a few hours for accessing the full suite of cancer treatment services. The model is centered on the use of technology and task shifting to facilitate operations in remote areas, and patient-centric design principles to provide a good in-hospital experience to the patient and caregiver.

The program was attended by Local MLA Brindaban Goswami, MLA Borsola LAC Ganesh Limbu, Rajen Kalita Principal cum Chief Superintendent of Tezpur Medical College, Prof. of Darrang College Upendra Nath Samah and a large number of people of the Bihoguri area, official stuff, and public leaders.
