Career Orientation programme on Commerce at Tezpur University

The Department of Commerce, Tezpur University in association with the NE chapter of EIRC of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India proposes to organize a day-long programme on Career Orientation for Commerce students was held at University premises yesterday. The participants and guests were welcomed by Prof. Subhrangshu Sekhar Sarkar, Head, Department of Commerce, Tezpur University.  He narrated the unique features of the Integrated M Com programme of Tezpur University with the built-in option of lateral exit with B Com (Hons) degree, providing training on Financial, Tally etc. He also informed that the topper of B Com (Hons) programme of Tezpur University is eligible for two gold medals viz, opinion given by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and another given by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Prof. Chandana Goswami, Dean, School of Management Sciences encouraged students to be honest while selecting career option.

Attending the event Subhrajyoti Bharali, Managing Director of the Industrial Cooperative Bank Limited shared his own experience in bringing financial inclusion in the State of Assam and has opened a new vista for students for a career option. Dr. Joydeep Baruah, Associate Professor at OKD Institute of Social Change and Development, Guwahati introduced students to the arena of research and consultancy and talked about a career in analytics. CA Lokesh Agarwala from Guwahati made a very lively presentation on various career options before a commerce student. CS Riju Pathak, a practicing Company Secretary of Tezpur presented the objectives and functions of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She also described details about the CS course before the students and encouraged students to join the course. CS Pradeep Sharma and CS Kushall Bagaria made elaborate discussions on the CS programme in India. CS Biman Debnath, former Chairman of the NE Chapter of EIRC of ICSI of India made a very informative session with the students. The students of the Department of Commerce presented cultural items that enthralled the audience. The latest edition of “Adwitiya”, the e-magazine of the Department of Commerce, Tezpur University was launched in the event. Certificates for completion of Tally Accountant ERP 9 were distributed to successful achievers. Dr. Farah Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Tezpur University offered the vote of thanks. The programme was attended by around 200 students studying commerce at Tezpur University and nearby institutions.
