After two times Tezpur awarded for least polluted city in India, Tezpur city again awarded for Swachh City Award for being the fastest moving city in Northeast Zone (under population category below 1 lakh) in Swachh Survekshan, 2019 under Swachh Bharat Mission by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. The award function held on March 6 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The award was received by Pushpa Deka, Chairperson, Tezpur Municipal Board along with Ward Commissioner Dhaneswar Das and Office Staff Bijit Kotoki given by Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in the presence of Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA, Govt. of India and many dignitaries. The award ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Ram Nath Kovind, President of India.
While talking to this correspondence, Pushpa Deka said the objective of the survey is to encourage large scale citizen participation and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities a better place to live in. She expressed her gratitude to the people of Tezpur and special contribution from all Safai Karamcharis, Ward Commissioners and office staffs. She urged all the people to join in this mission to make our Tezpur city clean and green.
